May 5, 2008
Do you the winter blues? Take your workout outside for some fresh air, sunshine and extra fun. You’ll gain a whole new appreciation for winter fitness activities once you try a few of the ideas below.
Some Fun Winter Workouts
Idea #1 Workout Outside
Start your outside workout with a little jog or fast walk to warm up. Use your child’s swing-set for pull-ups, and get creative. Once you start looking, you’ll come up with all kinds of cardio and weight training ideas outside. Of course you could also get some friends together for a quick game of basketball or tag football.
Idea #2 Jogging or Power Walk
If you’re tired of being stuck inside when it come to exercise, get outdoors for a good jogging or power walking workout. Jog around the block or walk a couple of miles. You can add light hand weights to work your upper while you’re walking and burn more calories along the way. A hilly terrain will give you a great interval training session.
Idea #3 Ice Skating Or Ice Hokey
Ice skating is a fun form of winter exercise. Check your area for frozen lakes open to skating or skate rings. Of course kids really enjoy ice skating too and it is a great way to get them moving. Skate around and work on your moves, or play a little friendly game of ice hokey.
Idea #4 Snow Shoeing
If you’re tired of jogging and walking, trade your sneakers for a pair snow shoes. Snowshoeing works your leg muscles because you have to really lift your legs to be able to walk around. Add some poles for an all over workout.
Idea #5 Hiking
Many people associate hiking only with the summer or spring months. However, hiking is also a popular winter fitness activity. Don’t forget to bring along your digital camera so you can take pictures of the beautiful winter scenery as you explore a familiar trail in this completely different light.
