Pilates For Beginners
May 2, 2008
Pilates is a great way to exercise that is gaining in popularity all the time. Similar to yoga, it focuses on aligning and relaxing the body while strengthening its core muscles. One of the best things about it is that it is very easy to get going, even for people with no experience.
If you want to get the most effective Pilates work out the best thing to do is find a professional to work with. A great place to find a professional is to look out for a Pilates Studio but these are not found in every city. It is not only important that they specialize in Pilates but they must also have machines that are specifically designed to give you an optimal workout.
If you can’t find a Pilates Studio in your area, see if you can find a class. Many health clubs will offer these classes for a lower price than going to a studio. While you probably will be doing exercises on a mat instead of machines, you’ll still have someone with experience showing you the proper form and that will help you get a great session.
There are some other options to try if after you’ve searched for a studio and classes you’ve still found nothing. On option is to purchase a book or set of CDs that teach you some specific moves and how to do them. These audios may also incorporate equipment such as a ball or resistance band. Most of the equipment you need can be found at your local fitness supply store.
You may want to consider purchasing a Pilates machine is your available space and funds will allow. They offer more resistance and help to increase how effective the workout you do will be. These can be bought from various retailers and are similar to those found in Pilates Studios. Find a machine that offers you the ability to do many exercises on the same machine as opposed to a machine that does only one exercise.
Pilates can be great to help with strength, balance, and posture, among other things. Don’t forget to do cardio as well. Pilates isn’t a replacement for an aerobic workout, but it is a fantastic addition to your exercise routine.
