What most people think of as aging isn’t really aging at all. It’s degeneration of the body from many years of misuse. If you have spent your whole life eating junk food, lounging around on the couch, or hunched over the computer keyboard your body will get still and sore. There’s no getting around it, your body is a living machine and just like any other man made machine it needs to be maintained and cared for. There is a difference between your body and a man made machine, your body can regenerate and renew itself on a cellular level. Yoga can be the greatest tool you can use to maintain your body.

Yoga for people over 50 is becoming a trend. The “boomer” generation can reverse the process of aging and even feel younger than before. Many people are starting Yoga late in life and finding they are feeling better than they have when they were much younger. The body’s ability to recover lost health and flexibility is a big benefit of beginning a Yoga routine. All you need is the ability to try and the patience to let your body go with the flow.

Yoga can is an ideal exercise for the prevention of osteoporosis. Yoga poses can also be used to alleviate the pain in the needs and feet of those that are suffering from arthritis. Some seniors have gone from not being able to get off the floor without help to a new energy and flexibility they though was gone forever.

If you don’t exercise your body, your joints will stiffen and your muscles will get flabby and that will make you lose motivation to do any exercise at all. Those over 50 can do yoga even if they need to use props like chairs, straps, blocks, and other implements that will help them to do the exercise. These implements allow those that have misused their body for years can do the exercises. Seniors are rarely as fragile as what they think they are and Yoga can benefit those that are well over the 50’s and 60’s to regain the suppleness of their body. Modified versions of Yoga poses are also available, so there is really no reason to think that you can’t do the poses.

Seniors are challenged to not just work on the easy poses, but to push themselves to reach their full potential. Seniors must listen to their bodies as well, but if they continue to practice the postures, breathing in the correct way and flexing those little used muscles they will reap the benefit from practicing Yoga.

Yoga can keep the mind active and make the joints and muscles like a well-oiled machine. Many seniors in their 70’s and 80’s feel younger, more positive and more agile after they started actively practicing Yoga. Yoga can also improve balance by strengthening the body and gives a senior an over-all sense of health and happiness in the later years of life.

Do you work on your feet all-day coming home with lower back pain? Studies show that most people in their lifetime will experience lower back pain at least once in their lives, and for some it’s there as a constant ache. You don’t have to stand on your feet to impact your back. Sitting at a desk all-day and then go home and sit in the lounge in front of the television. An office worker’s back can hurt and he harmed just as easily as someone who does physical labor all-day. Did you know that any mental tension you carry around with you could have a negative affect on your back? Age also has to be factored in when we talk about a stiff back. Yoga exercises for the back can help that aching back.

Ah, you’re asking yourself how it could with all those impossible postures to get into. They even look painful for someone with an aching back! The good news is that yes, Yoga can help that back. Before you do start any new exercise program, consult your doctor first. Be sure that your aching back is not something else more serious.

After you have your doctor’s approval to start, take it slowly. You don’t have to master the postures all in one day, week, or month. Remember you are trying to ease back pain, not increase it by trying to do the poses and postures too soon. Pay attention to what you back is telling you after you have had a couple of sessions. If you’re having problems, slow down, try to master one posture at a time. Discuss the problems you’re having with your instructor. They will be able to look at your posture and the way you are trying to do the asanas and let you know if you need to change anything.

Once you have started practicing Yoga, take it into your everyday life. Get moving! If you have to stand or sit in one place for a long, change positions at least every 15 minutes. Stretch, even if you can’t sensibly leave your position or desk, you can change positions, stretch your legs, or move around to a different position. Relax, recognize when you are letting your muscles tense up, and take a breath. Go easy on yourself; you don’t have to be perfect.

Maybe you are young and haven’t experienced any back problems yet. Your back can remain healthy and strong by working on your posture with Yoga. There are several precautions you can take to keep you back healthy are simple items we just don’t think about before we do them. For instance, when you’re picking up something heavy, do you lift with your back by keeping your legs straight? Try bending your knees and dividing the weight evenly throughout your body as you lift. You should be doing stretching exercised to keep your back limber. Stretching before and after you finish a Yoga workout will help your back. Be easy on yourself and your back will thank you for it.

You say you are too busy to take half an hour to an hour out of your day to practice Yoga routine. You can still practice the poses while you are in the office or even standing in a grocery check out line. The Mountain Pose is one you can do and no one will notice. Here are the basics of the Mountain Pose. Stand straight with your weight distributed evenly between both feet. Let your shoulders hang easily and put your pelvis in a neutral position. Also, wear flats when you are running errands, it will make it easier to sneak in the Mountain Pose, and your feet will feel better at the end of the day.

There are quite a few simple Yoga Asanas you can do while sitting at your desk, making these perfect yoga office exercises. If you have the luxury of a private office, you can use part of your lunch hour to practice a few poses, just shut your door. You don’t have to have a lot of room, just the size of a mat and you don’t have to have that either. If you have a cubicle instead of an office there are still some poses stretches you can do that will loosen you up and make you more relaxed. A twist is done by crossing one leg over the other and grasping the outer thigh of the top leg with the opposite arm. With your free arm, grab the back of your chair and twist until you feel a comfortable switch. You can pretend like you are looking at something over your shoulder. Now switch, no one will even notice and it’s good practice to do stretches at your desk, it makes you more efficient and lessens tension.

Another good stretch to release tension in your neck is to try to touch your ear to your shoulder. Moving your head slowly up and down, and side-to-side can do neck stretches. They will think you are shaking your head yes or no to someone. You won’t look like your not doing your job and it will relax you and make you more productive.

If you have a little more freedom, here are a couple of Yoga stretches you might try. This one Put your ankle on top of your opposite knee, drape your body over the triangle your legs are making. Switch legs and do the same thing. This one is great for really relaxing the spine after you’ve been sitting for a long time. Stand up pushing your chair back bending from the hips and keeping your back straight, bend over and place your folded arms on the desk. Take a few deep breaths, and then slowly roll up one vertebra at a time.

Here’s one I especially like. If you are watching TV and a commercial comes on, take a minute to sit cross-legged on the floor with your hands on your knees. Slowly rotate your body in big circles first one way and then the other. It should be a big help in relaxing your lower back.

Remember to always breathe correctly, when you are doing even these simple poses. Start slowly, don’t force your body, and work up to where you want to be. You can be busy and still practice Yoga poses. Look for your opportunities throughout the day.

Most people have heard of yoga, but many aren’t aware of its great benefits. Yoga is a method of posing and deep breathing that can improve strength, flexibility, stamina, and relieve stress. If you’ve ever thought about trying yoga, now is a great time to start.

The first thing you need to do is figure out what type of yoga you want to try. This may seem simple, but there are 40 different types of yoga to choose from. Each one has its own benefits, strengths, and requirements. Which one is best for you will depend on your current physical fitness level, what you’re looking to accomplish in yoga, and your own personal preferences. If you plan to take classes, you should check to see what types are available in your area before you choose.

While you can find tapes and books that teach you various yoga poses and techniques, you will get the most benefit from attending a class. A qualified instructor will be able to tell you if you’re doing everything properly; doing the poses correctly will give you the biggest benefit. One thing you should be aware of that many people may be uncomfortable with, is touching. Your instructor may move you around if you’re posing incorrectly, or massage you for further relaxation. If this is a big problem for you, then you may want to learn through a different method.

When you go to a class, you should be prepared. Remember to wear loose clothing that you can move around in. If you’re unsure of what will go on in a class, look up your type of yoga online or ask someone who has been to a class before. When you show up, be sure to inform the instructor that you’re new so they can provide you with extra help, and don’t be afraid to ask questions during the class. If you find you like the techniques used in the class, you should make it a point to come regularly to experience the full benefit.

While you may want to try yoga as a physical fitness regime, you may also be interested in its other aspects. Yoga is more than just posing and deep breathing; it is a belief system that involves all aspects of life. If you find your classes beneficial, you should do more research into this fascinating subject.

Do you know about the yoga weight loss benefit? Yoga is a great way to tone your muscles and help with weight loss.

First let’s define “regular Yoga practice.” Regular Yoga practice is practicing Yoga for at least 30 minutes one time a week for four or more years. Yoga practice can help those people that are middle age, lose weight, and keep it off.

The Yoga exercise is not enough to lose weight. What Yoga does, is make you more aware of your body. It helps to respond to what your body is telling you. When you’re more sensitive to your body, you can easily recognize the fact that you are full. You are more attuned to what your body has to tell you and gives you the will power to stay from the unhealthy food you crave.

Body awareness is a big factor in the practice of Yoga. The practice of Yoga helps you to listen to your body, focus on your body, blocking out external sights and sounds. You grow accustomed to a little discomfort while working on the postures and that in turn, helps you to fight the discomfort you feel when you crave unhealthy food. Yoga can allow your body to reject the junk food and welcome the food that’s good for you.

Here are some tips for those who want to use Yoga for weight maintenance or weight loss.

Practice in a room without mirrors. This will force you to pay attention to what is happening inside of you instead of how well you are doing your Yoga postures.

As you are practicing, learn to feel even the subtlest of movements. Become involved and curious about these micro-movements.

When you are practicing your poses, find a position where you are challenged but don’t allow yourself to become overwhelmed. When you are at this edge between challenges and overwhelmed, practice keeping a clear, open and accepting state of mind.

Go easy on yourself; if you’re overworked give yourself permission to rest.

Self-talk while practicing Yoga is very important. Be sure to say nice comments to yourself, complimenting your inner self with your efforts and your goodness over all.

If you belong to a Yoga class, go early, talk to people. Allow yourself to be open to those around you.

Take your own mat to class with you. You will find it’s more comfortable when you are using the mat you are familiar with.

Find a teacher who teaches with a balance of firmness and gentleness and who inspires you to progress to a higher level.

Realize just by going to the class, you are making a statement that you are taking care of yourself and you have the courage to make the changes in your life, which will allow you to reach your dearest dream.

The development of qualities like patience, wisdom, kindness, discipline, and gratitude comes form your practice of Yoga. Yoga helps you create a quiet and gentle mind.

Challenging and rewarding and help with weight loss and control. Control your cravings and allow your body to desire healthy food and learning self-control, is the secret to your weight control Yoga routine.

One of the big benefits of yoga is that there are literally hundreds of different exercises you can choose from and customize them to your body’s needs.

If your goal is to regain vitality, health, and vigor; and feel stronger and younger, consider Yoga as your exercise of choice. If you are looking for a form of exercise that is balanced and can be started by anyone over seven, Yoga may be for you. If you want a program that gets more challenging as you advance, can start no matter what condition your body is in, Yoga should be your choice.
